Day 14 & 15 (9-10/Apr/2026): Kathmandu
Memories from our trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC)
Morning was busy with packing all the stuff back into our suitcases and prepare for checkout. Our return tickets were booked for 10th April afternoon. We (Pankaj, me, Shobita and Sanjeev) planned to checkout Kathmandu today and do some shopping the next day before heading to Bangalore. We visited Narayanhiti Palace Museum in the morning. Spent almost 4 hours here exploring the various wings. After this went a Japanese restaurant for lunch. This was in one of the malls which was walkable from the museum. The foot was yum. After a leisure lunch took a cab to Darbar square and explored the historical places in that area. Later in the evening got back to Thamel to experience the buzzing streets. Sanjeev wanted to buy Churpi (yak cheese). We ended up exploring a few gallis of Thamel looking for Churpi-but alas no luck 😞.
Next day (10th April), our return flight to B’lore was later in the evening. We decided to take the morning easy. Post breakfast we split to checkout Thamel market and do any last-minute shopping. My ankle was still hurting, so Pankaj and I walked a bit around the hotel area we were staying. We didn’t have anything to shop. Bought tote bags with baby buddha for Shree and Shrishti. We did some window shopping and returned to the hotel.
Sanjeev and Shobita also returned from their shopping. Shobita had got 3 stone bracelets for us as a memory of this trek. Sanjeev went back to the same shop to get another one for Shobita so that all of us can have a similar bracelet reminding us of the trek we did together.
We had an early lunch and left to the airport. It was two weeks since we had left home. Time just flew. At the airport, Sanjeev finally got to place which sold Churpi 😅.

Few minutes after flight took off from Kathmandu, we could the Himalayan mountain range from our flight. What a beauty! Even from such high up they were visible and looked like they were floating in the sky😍.
Our flight had a layover on Delhi. Upto Delhi all four of us were on the same flight. Shobita was on a different flight on the Delhi to B’lore leg. We bid goodbye to her in Delhi airport and boarded our last leg of the journey. Reached B’lore in the wee hours of Saturday (11th April) and were home by 2am.
For Pankaj and me, this was our first high altitude trek. The trek gave me so many amazing new experiences, met new people, had so much fun and learnt many new things. Importantly, this trek gave the confidence to think about doing a few more high-altitude treks - hopefully 🤞
So the question now is, WHICH TREK DO WE DO NEXT? AND WHEN? 🤔
